Questoin for all the guitarists......?

i have a 2003 fender american strat....and im looking for another guitar....now i play death metal, but oddly enough can only shred/ play fast on MY guitar....everytime i go to the store to test one out i feel like a noob because i seriously like cant play any other guitar. i kinda gave up looking and now i want to know about pickups. what would you recommend for metal that would fit into my strat?
