Why are people such elitists when it comes to "metal"?

You think you have it bad? How about taking a look at Christian metal artists? I've heard Christian metal guitarists shred notes and chords that the best of mainstream metal couldn't touch. But, because their Christian, almost no one will give them a second listen, unless they're not told that the band they're listening to is a Christian metal band. Just as a for instance, and I know that a lot of people will not know this, but I know a lot of people who like the band 'As I Lay Dying'. However, what they don't know is they are a Christian group. Just like Flyleaf. They are also Christian. Not metal, but hard rock at least.
