Can i change her name or is it too late?

I am adopting a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier from our local animal shelter and im bringing her home friday. well i want to change her name to lilly instead of the name the shelter gave her which is delillah,she just got that name when she came in because she was severly abused and the owner didnt name any of the dogs in the house. she doesn't come when called or pay attention to that name at all. do you think i could change her name?
