Is Freedom Of Speech such a great thing?

In Australia, my country, we have censorship, which means that books that promote discrimination, or racism or the like won't be published. But, from what I understand, under the amendment allowing free speech in America, anyone can publish anything. Which includes White supremest, or Neo-Nazi? It also allows for groups like the KKK to grow in power and membership. So, is freedom of speech good, or bad
